In honour of Blessed Celina Borzecka

Sr. Anna Helena Skalik, CR

The celebrations venerating Blessed Celina Borzecka, the founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection, lasted three days. They began in the Church of St Margaret and St Catherine in Kety on 25 October 2009. The solemn Mass on the feast day of Blessed Celina was presided over by Rev. Dr. Wojciech Zyzak from Krakow. The celebrants included Rev. Dr. Stefan Rylko, CRL, who helped the Sisters of the Resurrection in the successful process concerning a healing through the intercession of Mother Celina. The process led to her beatification in Rome. There were also priests born in the homeland of Blessed Celina in Belarus: Fr Jozef Zaniewski from Moskow, Rev. Msgr. Jerzy Steckiewicz from Kaliningrad and Rev. Msgr. Andrzej Steckiewicz from Minsk in Belarus. Moreover, there were members of Blessed Celina’s family from Krakow and Warsaw. The local authorities of Kety were represented by Mayor Roman Olejarz and the President of the Town and District Council Jozef Skudlarski, and from the Belarus side: Vice-President of the Council of Grodno Zywalewski Stanislaw Stanislawowicz and the President of the kolkhoz [Russian collective farm] in Swislocz Hustyr Wasilij Nikołajewicz. A solemn Eucharist celebrated in the chapel of the Sisters’ Convent began the celebrations on 26 October 2009 in Kety. Then there were official meetings of the authorities of the districts of Kety and Grodno, together with the sightseeing of Kety and the surroundings. The next day, 27 October, was devoted to the symposium on the spirituality of Blessed Celina held in Bielsko-Biala and organised by the Institute of Spirituality of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow and the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection, the Office of the Starost of Oswiecim and the Office of the District of Kety under the patronage of Bishop Tadeusz Rakoczy. The scientific reflection wonderfully crowned the celebrations, being a challenge to follow the model of a woman who combined the charisms of a wife, mother, widow and woman religious.
