A WAR OF THE UNION AGAINST HUNGARY

WOJCIECH KĘDER

‘Western democracies’ declared a war to Orbana’s Hungary and, without considering norms of international law or a rule, according to which the European Union is allegedly functioning

In spring 2014 in Hungary, there are going to be parliamentary elections which will decide about a direction into which Hungary will be going. It will turn out in a few months whether it will be continuation of the previous policy of Victor Oraban or the country of our nephews will do a radical turning-point into the left, expected so much in euro-Atlantic salons.

Western ‘democracies ‘ against the Hungarian ‘totalitarianism’

Here, after a long series of threats of European and American politicians, the European Parliament made a resolution, giving a possibility to impose various political sanctions on Hungary, with taking away the vote in the Council of Europe. There were also other voices, less official but also important besides the voices disapproval.

At the last annual meeting of the informal but extremely influential Group Bilderberg in the world, it was intended to discuss the issue of dismissing the prime minister Victor Orban from the authority. As one of the members of the European Commission informed a Hungarian Journalist from ‘Magyar Nemzet’, the vice-president of the European Commission Viviane Reding was going to become engaged in this unprecedented interference into inner matters of our nephews, with the support of American funds in this ‘pious’ work. Asked in this matter, the spokeswoman Reding – Mina Andreeva did not impugn this news, saying that the meeting of the Group Bilderberg had not been public, so there was no necessity to comment on it. She only forgot to explain what the role of the vice-president of the European Commission was as it was not a get-together. The above examples from a long list of warnings, threats and particular steps undertaken by Brussels and Washington show that ‘western democracies’ declared a war against Orban’s Hungary, not considering norms of the international law or a rule according to which the European Union is allegedly functioning. Here a question should be asked what Victor Orban wanted to do to offend leaders of the western world, that they decided to make such unprecedented pressures. Taking over the authority in 2010, in ruined and indebted Hungary by the leftist government, Orban, being supported by the majority of votes, quickly introduced thorough reforms, comprising the whole social, economic and political life.

These reforms included such spheres of life which generated enormous debts on the level of 85 per cent of the National Gross Product. Western commercial banks and companies were forced to pay the crisis tax, and all foreign subjects were deprived of the privileged position in many cases on the Hungarian market. There were also reductions of, among the others, taxes, fees for gas or electricity which were paid by the Hungarians. The constitution passed in 2011 emphasized the Christian roots not only in the preamble referring to God, but it also defined a marriage as a relation between a woman and a man and guaranteed the protection of human life from the conception, but it also introduced an effective pro-family policy, benefits for married couples paying off mortgage, as well as help of the state for those citizens who have taken loans in Swiss Franks.

In the oppression of Brussels

So, it is not astonishing that having violated many vital interests in Hungary, both of powerful groups of the foreign capital and native companies connected with it, as well as politicians changing Europe by force, in the spirit of a kind of progress, Victor Orban became the main enemy for the European Union, and he was recognized as a politician who brings ‘ a danger for peace and democracy’. International media from both sides of the Atlantic started to create the image of Hungary as a country restricting freedom of citizens and democracy, and also being a danger for neighbouring countries. This media clangor is louder when being addressed to not only the international public opinion but also to the Hungarians who made an improper choice – and having full freedom, they decided to pay lower instead of higher taxes, pay less for gas and electricity, pay lower interests in commercial banks, and pay off less debts from the state budget. Because of that, there is a serious danger that, again, in a few months – not caring about warnings of any kind, they can make a wrong choice.

There is a risk that after four years the first consequences of the government of Orban and Fidesz are seen. The state debt was reduced, with the elimination of the International Currency Fund. Reforms brought economic revival, lower installments, taxes and fees to citizens – there is less money in pockets, and the pro-family policy of the country is slowly removing the spectrum of demographic catastrophe. Hence, there is nervousness in European salons and it is much bigger which makes it difficult for the Hungarians to prove the breach of the EU law. Hence, European socialists in Strasburg, which was reminded by Grzegorz Górny, accuse the Hungarians of not…….single actions but the spirit implied in them’, whereas Cohn-Bendit accuses the government of Orban of the atmosphere in Hungary, in which ‘….fear is experienced by the homeless, educated people, the Jews and minorities’ (where do we know it from?).

(A Hungarian) elephant vs. the Polish matter

The development of the situation in Hungary is extremely interesting from the Polish point of view. And not only because the fact that a several dozen years ago, the political mentor of young Victor Orban and his friends was Prof. Wacław Felczak, but also because the fact that under his reigns, Hungary is going towards the opposite direction than the one into which Poland is going – both in the inner and foreign policy. Hence, the answer to the question where both countries will get to, is extremely interesting. In fact, today on the political and social ground, everything separates us. Political elites are completely different in both countries, and the authority depends on what kind of people have it.

In Hungary, there were references to the Christian worldview and tradition and Christian culture and these rules were implemented. Even in our constitutional preamble there is no reference to God. Indeed, we have many pretenders -‘defenders’ of Christianity, but looking at their actions, we can rather think that we are dealing with another Egyptian disaster, which our Merciful Lord sent onto our sinful nation, than with politicians who say what they believe and can implement ideals in practice. In Hungary a restrictive financial policy was introduced which gives equal chances to all economic subjects but which is difficult in Poland. Victor Orban is pursuing an active pro-family policy and policy supporting native entrepreneurship which has been only a meaningless slogan in our country.

The Hungarian government limited debts of the country, is pursuing a saving inner policy, reducing financial burdens of the budget, but in our country, despite the promises, the governmental administration was developed, the public debts was increased by a few hundred milliards, no reform of social insurances was introduced. It is similar with the international policy – Hungary is strongly defending its subjectivity, but Poland did a radical retreat from the line defined by Lech Kaczyński, which is symbolized by the pronouncement of minister Sikorski in Berlin. So, we can only say that it is us who raise the ‘general admiration’ with the green island (if not, there will be a ‘revival’ and it will turn green again) and it is us, not the Hungarians, who are praised, and these words of the European recognition bring a good mood to the Polish voter.
