DIVORCED PEOPLE LIVING IN NEW RELATIONSHIPS CANNOT RECEIVE THE HOLY COMMUNION

Fr. PAWEŁ ANDRIANIK

Recently, on some websites, there has appeared information that the Catholic Church in Germany allows people living in other relationships to receive all sacraments: the Holy Communion, baptism, confession. As an example, I give Fryburg archdiocese in Germany, which was to issue a letter in this issue.

‘Niedziela’ reached to 24- paged - document of Fryburg archdiocese, which has been mentioned, signed by Fr. Andreas Mohrle and Fr. Michael Schweiger. Nothing is mentioned about the Holy Communion for people living in non-sacramental relationships there, but lots is written about care for these people.

Moreover, the press spokesman of Fryburg archdiocese Robert Eberle, in the interview with ‘Niedziela’, belied this information. He said that the ‘new document cares about divorced people, according to the teaching of pope Benedict XVI and pope Francis. It is all about the Catholics, so that they would not feel rejected. However, it has nothing in common with giving the Holy Communion’. The sacraments of baptism and confession are available in the Church for everybody. However, the Holy Communion requires life in the sanctifying grace.

The document says about taking care of people living in non-sacramental relationships, not about the Holy Communion.
