FAREWELLS, GREETINGS…

MIROSŁAW PIOTROWSKI

It is not the first castling in the European Parliament. From time to time euro-deputies say farewell, who hold important posts in their countries.

Andrzej Duda is saying farewell to the European Parliament, who was elected a president of Poland. His place is taken by the next person from the list of the Law and Justice party in a district from which he started. It is not the first castling in the European Parliament. From time to time euro-deputies say farewell, who hold important posts in their countries. In the last cadency, in 2011, an euro-deputy and also the vice-president of our Parliament Stawros Lambrindis stopped his work in the European Parliament, when he was appointed the foreign minister of Greece. It is similar with a Finnish euro-deputy Alexander Stub who was appointed a chief of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, and then he became the prime minister of Finland. Recently he has welcomed our delegation of European Conservatists and Reformers in the Finnish parliament. For he was in one political group with many members of our group years ago. Whereas, the Latvian euro-deputy Valdis Dombrovskis changed the MP mandate to the EP a few years before into a post of the prime minister of Latvia, but after the next euro- election we re-welcomed him in the European Parliament. After the recent election in Finland, one of our colleagues Sampo Terho moved to the Finnish parliament and has a chance to take over the post of the finance minister. Many prime-ministers of European countries, completing the composition of the government, uses the candidatures of their euro-deputies.

It did not happen in any other way during the reconstruction of the government of Donald Tusk in 2007, when he dismissed two people from Brussels for posts of ministers of: defence and education. In the last cadency, during other reconstructions, other euro-deputies were dismissed. The prime-minister Jarosław Kaczyński behaved in a similar way, who appointed one of euro-deputies a foreign minister and another known euro-deputy got at the helm of the presidential office of Lech Kaczyński. Later we welcomed him in the European Parliament. Castling is still taking place and will go on. At present we say farewell to the euro-deputy – president elect of Poland. Time will prove in what circumstances we will greet one another again.
