The new and the old in Terliczka near Rzeszow

Fr Hieronim Warachim, OFMCap

A tidy village, warm and extremely friendly inhabitants, humble Capuchin monks who are hosts of the parish - this is the shortest description of Terliczka, place in the Podkarpacie Province, where a sanctuary was built on the patrimony of Fr Lech, Capuchin. A monastic house, called Saint Father Pio House, is being built, too. The Stigmatic Father Pio takes a special care for this work and this land. Only few people know that archaeologists discovered large deposits of natural gas and excavated fragments from the Bronze ages. »

Church cannot silence the Spirit of Truth

Piotr Chmielinski, Milena Kindziuk, Artur Stelmasiak

'They try to give the impression that everything is relative: even the truths of faith would depend on the historical situation and on human evaluation. Yet the Church cannot silence the Spirit of Truth', said the Holy Father in Pilsudski Square in Warsaw. »

One thousand years of Swiety Krzyz

Katarzyna Woynarowska

For a thousand years pilgrims have climbed Swiety Krzyz to pray in the chapel that holds the relics of the True Cross. The Benedictine monks ministered in this holy place for several centuries and nowadays the custodians of the relics are the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. In the Jubilee Year Benedict XV's announced the plenary indulgences for pilgrims coming to Swiety Krzyz and outlined the requirements to receive them. »

'I could not fail to come here'

Piotr Chmielinski, Milena Kindziuk, Artur Stelmasiak

Benedict XVI himself added a visit to the former Nazi death camp in Auschwitz. He said that he 'could not fail to come here.' The head of the Catholic Church, 'a son of the German people', prayed at the death wall, in the starvation cell of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe and before the Memorial of the Martyrdom of Nations. »

I would so willingly embrace each one of you!

Benedict XVI received relics of Sister Faustina, Apostle of Mercy, in Krakow-Lagiewniki. Here he met the sick, reflecting on two mysteries: the mystery of human suffering and the mystery of Divine Mercy. »

Sentimentally in Wadowice

Remigiusz Malinowski

'I could not leave out Wadowice as I make this pilgrimage in Poland following in his footsteps. I wished to stop precisely here, in the place where his faith began and matured', said Benedict XVI. »

Yes for Christ. Yes for the Church

Tadeusz A. Janusz

'The young people of John Paul II', 'The young people of Benedict XVI', 'The young people of Christ and the Church' - these words can describe the meeting of the Pope with young people in Krakow, the city's Blonie Park. The world media showed the witness of faith of young Poles. »

Benedict XVI in the Mother's house at Jasna Gora

Katarzyna Woynarowska, Fr Robert Lukaszuk, OSPPE

Benedict XVI brought a gift of two popes to Jasna Gora: two roses, which Paul VI was to give the Mother of God in 1966, the Millennium of Poland's Christianity. Then the communist government did not allow him to come to Poland. Benedict XVI conducted a Eucharistic service at the foot of Jasna Gora Hill, on the commons that were fully packed. »

Great witness of adherence to faith and to the Holy Father

Hot Polish May

Fr Ireneusz Skubis

This year Polish May, always saturated with Marian prayer, is filled with international events. Benedict XVI, Successor of St Peter, makes his first visit to the country of his predecessor, John Paul II. The appalling film 'The Da Vinci Code' is on in Polish cinemas. The Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' tries to introduce and explain the meaning of these events. We have enclosed a special academic insert, which is a response to the film and the blasphemous Dan Brown's book. »

Wojciech Mscichowski

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of 'Niedziela' an oak was planted in the yard of our editorial office. The oak grew out of the acorn that John Paul II had blessed. »

Let us reflect before we criticise

Fr Ireneusz Skubis

Before we mindlessly hurl insults at Radio Maryja we should listen to this station. We will hear the prayer of the wounded people who trust God with their problems, we hear about helping the neighbour, about care for the homeland and about numerous other daily matters of Polish families. First of all, millions of listeners of Radio Maryja deserve respect. »

'Niedziela' as a burning torch for those who walk in darkness

Agnieszka Raczynska-Lorek
