The supreme national distinction – the Order of the White Order was awarded to cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz. Awarding the Order of the White Eagle took place on 28 January this year in the chapter house of the Wawel cathedral, directly after the ceremony of the ingress of archbishop Marek Jędraszewski.

During the ceremony of awarding the order, president of Poland Andrzej Duda reminded that it had a deep symbolism connected with independent Poland and is awarded for merits for Poland. – The whole previous life was a significant merit for the Republic of Poland. This service which Eminency began, joining the seminary, was a road of serving God, the Church, our neighbours, but, first of all, serving the Polish nation – said Andrzej Duda.

Cardinal Dziwisz admitted that he had accepted the awarding the distinction to him as the expression of acknowledgment for matters which had happened during the past years, including the good of Poland. – Serving Christ and His Gospel, I have always been aware that in this way I served the man and Poland as best as I could. After all, it over a thousand years since our nation has been sculpturing its identity more or less faithfully, on the fundament of evangelical values of the good and love, human dignity created to the image and similarity of God. The same awareness was accompanying me during longtime work for John Paul II in Vatican – said cardinal Dziwisz.
