THE PROGRAMME OF THE PAPAL VISIT
On Saturday 19 September pope Francis starts his 10th apostolic journey. Till 22 September the Holy Father will be in Cuba, on 25 September he will visit the UNO, and he will return to Rome on 28 September
On 19 September the Holy Father will start his journey by the airbus A330 Alitalia from Rome at 10.15 and will arrive in the airport Jose Marti in Havana at 4 p.m. Of local time. The venerable guest will be welcomed solemnly there.
On Sunday 20 September at 9.00, the Pope will preside over the Holy Mass on the Rewolucja Square in Havana. At 4 p.m. he will pay a visit to the presidential palace, at 5.30 p.m. he will take part in the vespers with priests and clerics in the capital cathedral, and at 6.30 p.m. he will greet the youth in the Centre of Fr. Felix Vareli.
On Monday 21 September at 8.00, an airplane with the Holy Father aboard will fly to the city Holguin, where at 10.30 Francis will preside over the Holy Mass on the Rewolucja Square, and at 3.45 p.m. he will bless the city from the Hill of the Cross (Loma de la Cruz) and in a nearly an hour – at 4.40 p.m. - he will fly to Santiago, where at 7 p.m. he will meet with bishops of Cuba in the Seminary of St. Bazyli the Great. The Pope will end his day at 7.45 p.m. with a prayer in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercifulness from El Cobre – the Patron of Cuba.
On Tuesday 22 September at 8.00, the Holy Father will preside over the Eucharist in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Mercifulness from El Cobre – the Patron of Cuba, whereas at 11.00 he will meet with families in the cathedral. At 12.15 he will bless the city and at 12.30 he will set off to Washington. His flight to the military air base Andrews is scheduled at 4.00 p.m. Francis will be welcomed officially there.
Wednesday 23 September will begin with the visit of the Holy Father in the White House where at 9.15 a welcoming ceremony and a visit to the USA president are planned. At 11.30 the Pope will meet with the USA bishops in the cathedral of St. Matthew. At 4.15 p.m. In the National Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, there will be the Holy Mass, during which blessed Juniper Sierra OFM (1713-84) will be canonized.
On Thursday 24 September at 9.20, the Holy Father will arrive in the Congress of the United States where he will give his speech. At 11.15 a papal visit to the charity centre in the parish of St. Patric and a meeting with the homeless have been planned.
At 4 p.m. the boeing 777 of American Airlines with Francis aboard will fly to New York. At 6.45 p.m. the Pope will take part in vespers with priests, nuns and monks in the cathedral of St. Patrick.
On Friday 25 September the Holy Father will go to the main headquarter of the United Nations Organization where he will give a speech. At 11.30 he will take part in an inter-religious meeting on the so-called Ground Zero, where there had been the World Trade Centre till 11 September 2001. At 4 p.m. Francis will go to Harlem where he will visit a School of Apostles' Queen and will meet with children and families of immigrants.
The last schedule point will be the Holy Mass on this day at 6 p.m. In an aula Madison Square Garden.
On Saturday 26 September the Pope will go to Philadelphia where from 22 September there will be the VIII World Meeting of Families. At 10.30 in the cathedral of St. Peter and Paul he will preside over the Holy Mass celebrated with bishops, clergy, nuns and monks of Pensilvania. At 4.45 p.m. he will take part in a meeting for the sake of religious freedom with a community of Spanish language and other immigrants in the Independence Mall. At 7.30 p.m. he will preside over the Feast of Families and a Vigil Prayer on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in the centre of Philadelphia.
The Holy Father will begin Sunday 27 September at 9.15 a.m. in the Seminary of St. Karol Boromeusz where he will meet with bishops being guests of the VIII World Meeting of Families. At 11.00 he will pay a visit to prisoners in a Reformatory facility Curran-Fromhold, whereas at 4 p.m. on Benjamin Franklin Parkway he will preside over the Holy Mass ending the VIII World Meeting of Families. At 7 p.m. a meeting with an organizational committee, volunteers and donors of families meetings is planned. At 7.45 p.m. A farewell ceremony for the Holy Father will start, whereas at 8 p.m. the papal airplane will take off back to Rome. The Pope is to arrive in the airport Ciampino on Monday 28 September at 10.00.
