Our weekly has been published for over 70 years. This period should be divided into the time before World War II, the years after the war and the recent time after the weekly was re-established in 1981.

The first period of activities (1926–1939)

1926 – Bishop Teodor Kubina set up the weekly 'Niedziela' (Sunday) – illustrated Catholic weekly of the Diocese of Czestochowa. Fr Wojciech Mondry became its first editor–in–chief (born 3 December 1887 – died 20 December 1969). The weekly originated just after Pope Pius XI had erected the Diocese of Czestochowa with the bull 'Vixdum Poloniae unitas', dated 28 October 1925. Fr Teodor Filip Kubina (1880–1951), social activist, promotor of the Catholic Action, columnist, editor of 'Gosc Niedzielny' (Sunday Visitor) was the first bishop of this diocese. Bishop Kubina offered a pastoral encouragement concerning the weekly to the faithful in his diocese.
4 APRIL 1926 – the first issue of 'Niedziela' was published. In its masthead there was a subtitle 'Weekly for Catholic people of the Diocese of Czestochowa. Illustrated Catholic Weekly of the Diocese of Czestochowa. Bp Teodor Kubina wrote a special letter on the occasion of the publication of 'Niedziela'. At first the editorial office was placed in the presbytery of St Sigismund's church in Czestochowa.
1927 – 'Niedziela' published the book by Bishop Teodor Kubina entitled 'The Miracle of Faith and of Polish Identity in America'.
1928 – the Diocesan Curia gave 'Niedziela' an office at 64 Most Blessed Virgin Street.
1928 – the first issue of 'Kalendarz Jasnogorski' (Calendar of Jasna Gora) (published till 1937).
1928 – 'Niedziela' published the book by Wl. Marcinkowski entitled 'History of the Parish in Przedmosc'.
1929 – a special supplement for children 'Niedziela dla dzieci' (Sunday for Children) (4–6 pages). 'Niedziela' published the book by Fr Wincenty Przygodzki entitled 'From the Past of Wielun. A Contribution to the History of the Diocese of Czestochowa'.
1 JANUARY 1929 – a supplement 'Mlodziez Katolicka' (Catholic Youth), Circular of Polish Youth Associations.
1 JANUARY 1931 – Elza Burchardowna– Karwowska, well–known columnist of 'Niedziela' and a novelist, was appointed editor of 'Mala Niedziela' (Little Sunday).
26 SEPTEMBER 1931 – Pope Pius XI awarded the medal 'Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice' to the editor–in–chief Fr Wojciech Mondry for his editorial and publishing activities in the diocese.
1932 – the editorial board appealed to the clergy to increase the readership in the diocese.
1933 – a special edition of 'Kalendarz Jasnogorski' concerning the celebration of the 1900th anniversary of Christ's death (Holy Year) and the 250th anniversary of the battle of Vienna.
'Niedziela' published many articles about Polish pilgrims going to Rome for the Jubilee. Pope Pius XI received annual bound volumes of 'Niedziela'.
1935 – the Diocesan Institute of the Catholic Action and 'Niedziela' published a revised version of the book by Bishop Teodor Kubina entitled 'The Miracle of Faith and of the Polish Identity Among the Polish Immigrant Community'.
APRIL 1936 – the 10th anniversary of 'Niedziela'. Bishop Teodor Kubina wrote an editorial.
15 SEPTEMBER 1937 – Fr. Stanislaw Gal±zka (b. 1 May 1907 – d.1 June 1963) became the next editor–in–chief.
22 SEPTEMBER 1937 – the Diocesan Curia appointed the Diocesan Institute of the Catholic Action in Czestochowa to act as publisher of the weekly.
3 SEPTEMBER 1939 – the last issue was published – the outbreak of World War II.
In this period the following authors published in 'Niedziela': Bp Teodor Kubina, Fr Wojciech Mondry, Fr Stanislaw Ufniarski, Fr Hipolit Zielinski, Fr Bonawentura Tuor, Fr Kozubski, Fr Edward Banaszkiewicz, Fr Stanislaw Kuras, Fr Boleslaw Stradowski, Fr Franciszek Gryglewicz, Fr Stanislaw Bartyzel, Fr Antoni Zimniak, Fr Walenty Patykiewicz, Fr Kucharski, Pauline Fathers: Pius Prze1/4dziecki and Fr Andrzej Andrzejewski; Fr Stanislaw Gal±zka.
In the late 1920s and early 30s Bishop Kubina ordered to deliver 'Niedziela' to the workers coming from the Diocese of Czestochowa and working abroad.

The second period of activities (1945–1953)

FEBRUARY 1945 – a new editorial board was organized. Fr Dr Antoni Marchewka (born 31 December 1890 – died 13 February 1973) became the editor–in–chief. Zofia Kossak–Szatkowska (Szczucka), well–known writer, offered her help. She left Czestochowa in July 1945.
8 APRIL 1945 – the first issue appeared after the war. The bureau of 'Niedziela' was moved from 3 Maja Street 6/8 to 3 Maja Street No. 12. 'Niedziela' became a periodical directed to Catholics in the entire Poland. In the post–war period there was a sub–title 'for heaven and for bread' in its masthead. It was a weekly for everyone.
JULY 1947 – Fr Antoni Marchewka left a typescript 'My recollections' (Czestochowa, 1964)
JULY 1947 – JUNE 1948 – Fr Dr Marian Rzeszewski (born 23 January 1911 – died in 1980s, as a priest of the Diocese of Wloclawek) became the editor–in–chief. On 17 July 1947 Father Antoni Marchewka was arrested by the communist authorities and imprisoned in Koszykowa Street, and then in Rakowiecka Street in Warsaw.
JUNE 1948 – Fr Dr Antoni Marchewka returned to the weekly as its editor–in–chief.
15 JANUARY 1951 – an agreement with PPK 'Ruch was signed. The weekly was to be distributed by 'Ruch'.
8 AUGUST 1952 – 'Ruch' limited the distribution of 'Niedziela' to individual subscribers.
3 JANUARY 1953 – the Council of Ministers passed a bill, which raised the price of all periodicals.
15 MARCH 1953 – the last issue of 'Niedziela' was published. Bishop Zdzislaw Golinski made many attempts to re–establish 'Niedziela'.
1956 (After the Polish October) – the intervention of the Primate of Poland Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski and the Polish Episcopate concerning 'Niedziela'.
23 APRIL 1957 – Fr Antoni Marchewka was informed by the government that the limit on paper to print Catholic publications was exhausted.
30 OCTOBER 1957 – a memorandum concerning the publication of 'Niedziela' was submitted to the Speaker of the Sejm, Catholic Members of Parliament supported the memorandum (Catholic 'ZNAK' intellectuals).
In this period the following authors published in 'Niedziela': Fr Antoni Marchewka, Zofia Kossak–Szatkowska (Szczucka), Zofia Dragatowa, Wladyslaw Duleba, Fr Marian Rzeszewski, Bernard Rusiecki, Witold Zembrzuski, Sr. Barbara Zulinska, Dr. Marian Jozef ¦wiecicki, Kazimierz Golba, Michalina Janoszka, Fr St. Nieczyperowicz, engineer Antoni Gladysz, engineer B. Staniszewski, J. Jakobowicz, medical doctor, Antoni Golubiew.

The third period of activities (1981–)

16 OCTOBER 1978 – Cardinal Karol Wojtyla became Pope and would be known as John Paul II.
12 SEPTEMBER 1978 – 'Monitor Koscielny' (Church Monitor) was first published in the University Chaplaincy 'Piwnica' (news service based on the Polish section of the Vatican Radio. The editorial board: Fr Dr Ireneusz Skubis – editor–in–chief; Zofia Chwalba, Wlodzimierz Chwalba, Lidia Dudkiewicz, Irena Makowicz, Danuta Nowak, Danuta Wisnicka. The last issue of 'Monitor Koscielny' appeared on 1 March 1981. Altogether 120 issues were published.)
AUGUST 1980 – strikes in northern Poland; the origin of the Independent Trade Union 'Solidarity'. Bishop Stefan Barela attempted to re–activate 'Niedziela'. Fr Dr Ireneusz Skubis was the bishop's delegate for the talks in Warsaw.
5 MARCH 1981 – the decision to publish the weekly was made.
3 APRIL 1981 – letter of the Secretariat of State to the editorial board, concerning a new period of activities
11 APRIL 1981 – letter of the Krakow Metropolitan Cardinal Franciszek Macharski to the editorial board concerning a new period of activities
12 APRIL 1981 – letter of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, the Primate of Poland, to the editorial board on the occasion of reactivation of 'Niedziela'.
7 JUNE 1981 – the first issue of 'Niedziela' was published. The editor–in–chief was Fr Dr Ireneusz Skubis (editorial board: Fr Ludwik Warzybok, Fr Ksawery Sokolowski, Fr Jerzy Tomzinski, Fr Jozef Zycinski, and people collaborating with 'Monitor Koscielny'). Bishop Stefan Barela, Diocese of Czestochowa, sent a letter to the editorial board. The masthead was published in red.
the 1980s – the period of battles with censorship.All Pope's speeches and documents were published in the weekly. In this period the following authors, connected with the circles of the weekly 'Tygodnik Powszechny' and 'Znak', published in 'Niedziela': Stefan Kisielewski, Stanislaw Stomma, Stanislawa Grabska, Andrzej Micewski, Jozefa Hennelowa, Juliusz Jan Braun, as well as Jozef Zycinski (now Archbishop), Fr Mieczyslaw Malinski, Tadeusz Szyma, etc.
13 DECEMBER 1981 – Marshal law was imposed in Poland. The last issue of 'Niedziela' was published.

The fourth period of activities (1982–2001)

21 MARCH 1982 – the first issue was published after the weekly had been re–activated.
2 JANUARY 1983 – 'Niedziela' was published, partly in colour (some titles of articles)
6 JUNE 1986 – letter of Stanislaw Nowak, Bishop of Czestochowa, to the editorial board of 'Niedziela' on the occasion of the 60th anniversary
5–12 JULY 1987 – another change of the masthead
1989 – changes in Poland and the first free election. 'Niedziela' supported the candidates of 'Solidarnosc'. Some columnists of 'Niedziela' were elected to the Polish Parliament.
SEPTEMBER 1989 – another change of the masthead of 'Niedziela'.
The early 90s – columnists of 'Tygodnik Powszechny' stopped writing for 'Niedziela' because of various concepts of democracy, the role of religion and of the Church in social and political life. Later some circles saw 'Niedziela' as a traditionalist and closed periodical. In the 1990s politicians, members of parliament and senators, who were friends of 'Niedziela', visited the editorial board of 'Niedziela'. Some continued to write for 'Niedziela'. Among the visitors were Marian Krzaklewski, President of 'Solidarnosc' and Alicja Grzeskowiak, Speaker of the Senate. In those years 'Niedziela' defended the due place of the Church in social life and under democratic conditions. The weekly supported the idea of the return of religious instruction to schools; defended human life from conception, Christian values, the role and significance of family and marriage. It wrote about the concordat (published the whole document twice). It participated in discussions on democracy, law and media. 'Niedziela' polemicized with 'Gazeta Wyborcza' and 'Tygodnik Powszechny' and other periodicals. The following columnists of the Lublin and Warsaw circles wrote for 'Niedziela': Fr Andrzej Szostek MIC, Fr Tadeusz Styczen, Fr Cz. St. Bartnik, Fr Wojciech Goralski, Fr Jozef Krukowski, Fr Stanislaw Grzybek, Fr Jan Zwi±zek, Fr Jan Kowalski, Fr Teofil Siudy, Fr Zenon Monka, Pauline Fathers: Jan Pach and Jerzy Tomzinski as well as Karol Klauza, Jerzy Klechta, Marian Miszalski, Wlodzimierz Redzioch, Czeslaw Ryszka and the columnists connected with Radio 'Maryja', among others: Jerzy Robert Nowak, Jan Maria Jackowski, Krystyna Czuba, Marek Jurek.
4 MARCH 1990 – 'Niedziela' began publishing the television weekly programme
1991 – the Apostolic Movement of Friends of 'Niedziela' was called into being.
OCTOBER 1991 – a supplement for the Diocese of Czestochowa was published. Bp Stanislaw Nowak wrote a special editorial to the faithful and to the editors welcoming 'Niedziela Czestochowska' (Czestochowa Sunday).
1992 – 'Niedziela' initiated meetings of the 'Seminar Aetatis Novae'. The Seminar was formally initiated on 3 July 1993 as a forum to exchange views of the influential circles on contemporary social and religious life, e.g. situation of the Catholic mass media.
MAY 1992 – a supplement of the Archdiocese of Czestochowa was published (Czestochowa –Sosnowiec).
1993 – the first book of the series "Biblioteka Niedzieli' (Library of Niedziela) was published (Fr Andrzej Szostek MIC,). 'Niedziela Akademicka' (Academic Sunday) was published
17 JANUARY 1993 – 'Niedziela' was again published in colour.
MARCH 1993 – the first issue of 'Moje Pismo Tecza' (My Paper Rainbow) was published with the co–operation of 'Flerus Press' (Mon journal arc en ciel).
11 APRIL 1993 – the first issue of 'Niedziela lodzka' (Lod1/4 Sunday).
30 MAY 1993 – the first issue of 'Niedziela sosnowiecka' (Sosnowiec Sunday) and 'Niedziela czestochowska' (as a mutation)
5 SEPTEMBER 1993 – the first issue of 'Niedziela legnicka' (Legnica Sunday) – edition for Lower Silesia
3 OCTOBER 1993 – the first issue of 'Niedziela lubelska' (Lublin Sunday).
3 APRIL 1994 – the first issue of 'Niedziela lowicka' (Lowicz Sunday) and 'Niedziela przemyska' (Przemysl Sunday).
30 OCTOBER 1994 – the first issue of 'Niedziela plocka' (Plock Sunday).
4 DECEMBER 1994 – the first issue of 'Glos z Torunia' (Voice from Torun) – supplement to the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela'.
25 DECEMBER 1994 – the first colour edition of 'Niedziela'.
1 JANUARY 1995 – change of the masthead of 'Niedziela' (blue), the issue was partly in colour (photographs); the first issue of 'Niedziela podlaska' (Podlasie Sunday).
6–7 JANUARY 1995 – a meeting concerning the project to publish 'Niedziela Mlodych' (Youth Sunday)
8 JANUARY 1995 – 'Strona nastolatkow' (Teenagers' Page) – what is burning in us? by Brother T. Rucinski.
5 MARCH 1995 – the first issue of 'Niedziela Mlodych'(Youth Sunday).

19 SEPTEMBER 1995 – Archbishop Jozef Kowalczyk, Papal nuncio in Poland, blessed the new offices of 'Niedziela' (Building B).
4 OCTOBER 1995 – editor–in–chief Fr Dr Ireneusz Skubis received the Award of the Saint Maximillian Maria Kolbe Catholic Association of Journalists
5 NOVEMBER 1995 – the first issue of Niedziela warszawska' (Warsaw Sunday).
1995 – a radio studio of 'Niedziela' was opened.
1996 – the first issue of the series 'Zeszyty Niedzieli' (Sunday Notebooks) (Bp Adam Lepa, Mass media and the identity of Poles).
1996 – the conflict between 'Niedziela' and 'Zycie Warszawy' (Warsaw Life) concerning the title. 'Zycie Warszawy' illegally appropriated the title 'Niedziela' for its weekend supplement.
24 FEBRUARY 1996 – the first issue of 'Niedziela gnie1/4nienska' (Gniezno Sunday).
31 MARCH 1996 – the first issue of 'Aspekty' (Aspects) – Zielona Gora–Gorzow supplement to the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela'.
7 APRIL 1996 – Archbishop Metropolitan of Czestochowa, Stanislaw Nowak, wrote a letter to the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.
23–30 JUNE 1996 – the first issue of 'Czyn Katolicki' (Catholic Deed) – a supplement to Catholic Action.
29 JUNE 1996 – a meeting with John Paul II in Rome on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of 'Niedziela'.
18–24 AUGUST 1996 – the 12th International Mariological and Marian Congress; a special supplement 'Niedziela Kongresowa' (Congress Sunday).
23 OCTOBER 1996 – 'Niedziela' for the Sejm was published – a special supplement of 'Niedziela' concerning the protection of human life.
OCTOBER 1996 – the radio programme of 'Niedziela' entitled 'Spotkanie z Niedziel±' (Meeting with Sunday).
6 OCTOBER 1996 – the supplement 'Niedziela Telewizyjna' (Television Sunday).
1997 – Karol Klauza, member of the editorial board, was elected chairman of the Catholic Association of Journalists. 'Niedziela' distributed by the Polish Airlines LOT.
9 FEBRUARY 1997 – 'Niedziela' was launched on the World Wide Web.
1 JUNE 1997 – the first issue of 'Glos Katolicki' (Catholic Voice) – Lomza supplement to the Catholic weekly 'Niedziela'.
JUNE 1997 – flood disaster in Poland. The project of 'Niedziela' entitled 'One million of cordial notebooks' – for the children of the flood victims.
14 JUNE 1997 – the 1st Pilgrimage of 'Niedziela' and its readers to Jasna Gora. The editorial board awarded the mayor of Zakopane, Mr Adam Bachleda–Curus, for the most unique welcome of the Holy Father John Paul II during his pilgrimage to Poland.
14 SEPTEMBER 1997 – a special supplement 'Niedziela na wybory' (Sunday for the Election).
14 OCTOBER 1997 – 'Niedziela' hosted Mr Ryszard Kaczorowski, Polish Government President– in–exile.
25 NOVEMBER1997 – Cardinal Jozef Glemp, Primate of Poland, visited 'Niedziela'.
1998 – 'Niedziela' supported the idea of the District of Czestochowa.
4 JANUARY 1998 – the first issue of 'Niedziela Poludniowa' (Southern Sunday) – Rzeszow supplement to the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' and 'Lad Bozy' (God's Order) – Wloclawek supplement to the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela'.
14 FEBRUARY 1998 – the editorial board and its editor–in–chief Fr Dr Ireneusz Skubis received the Platinum Laurel of Arts and Competence.
27 JUNE 1998 – the 2nd Pilgrimage of 'Niedziela' and its readers to Jasna Gora. The editorial board conferred awards 'Mater Verbi'.
5 JULY 1998 – the first issue of 'Niedziela zamojsko–lubaczowska' (Zamosc–Lubaczow Sunday) and a special supplement 'Pielgrzymka Czytelnikow 'Niedzieli'' (Pilgrimage of the 'Niedziela' Readers)
SEPTEMBER 1998 – Radio programme of 'Niedziela' entitled 'Catholic deed on the waves' devoted to the Catholic Action.
6 SEPTEMBER 1998 – the first issue of 'Kosciol nad Odr± i Baltykiem' (The Church on the Oder and the Baltic) – a supplement to the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' for the Archdiocese of Szczecin–Kamien.
24 OCTOBER 1998 – the editor–in–chief received the K. Miarka Award.
11 OCTOBER 1998 – a special issue of 'Niedziela' for 20 years of the Pontificate of John Paul II 'Jan Pawel II Wielki' (John Paul II the Great).
NOVEMBER 1998 – the editorial board of 'Niedziela Dzieciom' was a member of the commission of the national children contest on the occasion of the Jubilee 2000.
23 NOVEMBER 1998 – the editorial board together with the Catholic Association 'Civitas Christiana' organized a conference on the literary output of Zofia Kossak–Szczucka.
19 DECEMBER 1998 – author's meeting with Katarzyna Woynarowska, editor of the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' in the Town Hall in Czestochowa within the framework 'Museum salon of stars', on the occasion of her book 'Reportaze z Bozej laski' (Reports from God's Grace).
1998 – 'Niedziela' began co–operation with the television religion contest 'Salomon'.
1999 – 'Niedziela' produced video cassettes: 'John Paul II and his Fatherland' – gift of the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' for the Holy Father on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Pontificate, and 'Here I am. Send me!'(about the national pilgrimage of seminarians to Jasna Gora).
JANUARY 1999 – Archbishop Stanislaw Nowak blessed the office of the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' (Building C). A new radio studio of 'Niedziela' was opened.
2 FEBRUARY 1999 – 'Niedziela' hosted some Polish members of parliament.
FEBRUARY – APRIL 1999 – a polemical discussion with 'Tygodnik Powszechny' about the meaning and understanding of the pontificate of John Paul II 'Tygodnik Powszechny' (issue 9 on 28 February 1999) published an article of Fr Zulehner, Austria, entitled .Can one criticize the Pope?'
APRIL 1999 – Internet service was launched.
8 APRIL 1999 – a press conference concerning the peregrination of the statue of Nazareth.
9–11 APRIL 1999 – 'Niedziela' participated in the Catholic Warsaw Book Fair.
6 MAY 1999 – the editorial board organized a press conference concerning the peregrination of the statue of Nazareth and the pilgrimage of John Paul II to Poland and to Czestochowa.
Before the pilgrimage of the Holy Father 'Niedziela published special colour supplements.
4 JUNE 1999 – the first meeting of 'Movement for Czestochowa'.
5 JUNE 1999 – Katarzyna Woynarowska, editor of 'Niedziela' received the award of the Minister of Health for the report about the issue of alcoholism entitled 'Horror called vodka'.
SEPTEMBER 1999 – a special supplement 'Niedziela dla Krzeptowek' (Sunday for Krzeptowki) was published.
1 SEPTEMBER 1999 – the inauguration of the activities of Catholic High School of the Czestochowa Archdiocese. 'Niedziela' took the school under its wing.
8 SEPTEMBER 1999 – a press conference concerning the national symposium of the Polish Mariological Society.
30 SEPTEMBER 1999 – 'Niedziela' hosted Maciej Plazynski, the Sejm Speaker.
21–24 OCTOBER 1999 – 'Niedziela' participated in the 3rd Krakow Book Fair.
13 NOVEMBER 1999 – the 3rd Pilgrimage of 'Niedziela' and its readers to Jasna Gora.
The editors conferred the awards 'Mater Verbi'.
DECEMBER 1999 – 'Niedziela' published 'The Gospel according to St Luke' for families on the occasion of the Great Jubilee 2000.
DECEMBER 1999 – a special issue of 'Zeszyty Niedzieli' on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Archbishop Metropolitan of Czestochowa, Stanislaw Nowak's elevation to bishopric.
4 DECEMBER 1999 – 'Niedziela Dzieciom' was presented in the television programme 'Ziarno' (Seed)
19 DECEMBER 1999 – a special supplement of 'Niedziela' for the Great Jubilee 2000
26 DECEMBER 1999 – another issue of the special supplement of 'Niedziela' for the Great Jubilee 2000
9 JANUARY 2000 – a special supplement 'Odpust Jubileuszowy – Koscioly Roku Jubileuszowego w Polsce' (Jubilee Indulgence – Churches of the Jubilee Year in Poland).
24 I 2000 – the editorial board of 'Niedziela dzieciom' participated in the meeting of editors of Catholic periodicals for children in Lipnica Murowana.
11 MARCH 2000 – the editor–in–chief Fr Ireneusz Skubis was awarded with the Cross 'Polonia Restituta' for his outstanding achievements of many years of social work and his contribution to the development of Polish journalism.
25 MARCH 2000 – Monsignor Ireneusz Skubis received the honour of Apostolic Protonotary.
28–30 APRIL 2000 – 'Niedziela' participated in the Fair of Catholic Publishers and received the award 'Feniks' in the category of editorial series for its 'Biblioteka Niedzieli', for popularizing Polish ecclesiastical thinking.
29 APRIL – 3 MAY 2000 – 'Niedziela' took part in MARCH – Days of Polish Book organized by the General Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Lyon.
18–22 MAY 2000 – 'Niedziela' participated in the 45th International Book Fair in Warsaw.
1 JUNE 2000 – 'Niedziela and 'Niedziela dzieciom' took part in the Children's Jubilee at Jasna Gora and in MARCH – the National Children Missions Congress as co–organizer of the Jubilee Contest for children 'If Lord Jesus came today'. 'Niedziela' in the 21st century

2001 - Archbishop Stanislaw Nowak, Metropolitan of Czestochowa, declared the year 2001 as 'Year of Niedziela'. On the occasion of the jubilee the editors of 'Niedziela' visited all parishes of the Archdiocese of Czestochowa and gave talks on the weekly as well as held meetings with parishioners.

12 FEBRUARY 2001 - a special session commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of the first bishop of Czestochowa Dr Teodor Kubina (1880-1951) held in the aula of 'Niedziela'. Archbishop Stanislaw Nowak, auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese of Czestochowa, representatives of the local government and the representatives of the state authorities as well as professors and seminarians of the Diocesan Seminary participated in the session.

25 FEBRUARY - a special issue of 'Niedziela Czestochowska' entitled 'Year of Bishop Teodor Kubina'. From 25 February, in the series of articles entitled 'A Hundred Lies of J.T. Gross', there appeared a polemic by Prof. Robert Nowak concerning the book 'Sasiedzi' (Neighbours) by Jan Tomasz Gross, Jewish sociologist from the U.S.A.

13 MARCH 2001 - Prof. Krzysztof Wielgut died. He wrote for 'Niedziela' for many years.

25 MAY 2001 - the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' launched a special World Wide Web service concerning the pilgrimage of John Paul II to Ukraine as the first periodical in Poland. The Apostolic See sent a special thanksgiving for this service.

27 MAY - the edition 'Niedziela Akademicka' (Academic Sunday) on the occasion of conferring the honorary doctor's degree upon Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz, secretary of the Holy Father John Paul II.

JUNE 2001 - the editor-in-chief received a letter of the Holy Father John Paul II on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the weekly.

23-27 JUNE 2001 - the pilgrimage of John Paul II to Ukraine. 'Niedziela' was actively involved in this event. The reporters of 'Niedziela' followed the Pope's route. Articles about the pilgrimage were published. The liturgical texts for the Mass in Lviv were published in the series 'Biblioteka Niedzieli' (Sunday Library). Then a book on the pilgrimage of the Holy Father to Ukraine was published.

JULY - AUGUST 2001 - 'Niedziela' published numerous articles about Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, Primate of the Millennium, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth.

8 SEPTEMBER - 'Niedziela' prepared a report on the coronation of the picture of Mary Help of Christians in Mosciska, Ukraine.

SEPTEMBER 2001 - 'Niedziela' related the tragedy in the U.S.A., after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on 11 September.

She was awarded the medal 'Mater Verbi' by the editor-in-chief. During the marshal law (1982) Fr Jerzy Popieluszko visited the editors of 'Niedziela'.

27 SEPTEMBER 2004 - the editor-in-chief was presented with a special distinction by the president of Czestochowa Tadeusz Wrona, for promoting tourism and love for the fatherland on the pages of 'Niedziela'.

OCTOBER 2004 - the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' was nominated for the reward 'TOTUS 2004 in the category of mass media to commemorate Bishop Jan Chrapek and his role in presenting the person and teaching of John Paul II in mass media'. This reward is the most prestigious distinction in the Catholic Church in Poland awarded by the Foundation 'New Millennium Work' established by the Polish Episcopate Conference.

3 OCTOBER 2004 - the first issue of 'Niedziela sandomierska' (Sandomierz Sunday).

9 OCTOBER 2004 - the editor-in-chief was presented with TOTUS 2004 in the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

JANUARY 2005 - the internet pages of 'Niedziela' had multimedial presentation of the latest publications of 'Niedziela'. Weekly presentations (the weekly, 'Moje Pisma T?cza' and books of 'Biblioteka Niedzieli') are prepared by the Televison and Radio Studio of 'Niedziela'.

14 JANUARY 2005 - the contest entitled 'Share the Good News, get to know God's helpers' was finished in the aula of the editorial board of 'Niedziela'. Children from the group 'Sonare' staged a performance about St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe.

20 JANUARY 2005 - traditional Christmas meeting of Workers, Readers and Friends of 'Niedziela' took place in the aula. The students of the Jan Dlugosz Academy gave a concert of carols.

16-18 FEBRUARY 2005 - in the aula several members of the Historical Circle of the Jagiellonian University conducted a historical workshop for high school pupils. The workshop was preceded by a lecture of Dr Wojciech Drelicharz, Jagiellonian University.

16 FEBRUARY 2005 - exhibition entitled 'A lump of soil, my castle vs. peace' presented the epigraphy from the lands of the Polish Commonweath.

13 MARCH 2005 - the audio service of 'Niedziela' was launched: Elzbieta Grochal read articles published in the latest issue of the weekly. 'Niedziela audio' is directed to the blind and visually impaired people. Because of their disability they cannot fully participate in social life. 'Niedziela audio' is prepared by the Radio Studio of 'Niedziela'.

2 APRIL 2005 - John Paul II, our beloved brother, died on Saturday, on the eve of the Divine Mercy Sunday. The entire Poland went into mourning. There were prayers in churches. People put photos of the Pope, with black ribbons, in the windows of private houses and institutions. Flags were hung: the national white and red one and the papal one, covered with a pall. The media showed films about the Holy Father's visits to Poland. There were recollections of the witnesses of the life and pontificate of John Paul II, Karol Wojtyla, Pope from Poland. 'Niedziela' prepared a special electronic version dedicated to the Holy Father: editorial 'A Good Shepherd passed away', film about John Paul II as Pilgrim proclaiming the Gospel to the world; a book of condolence for internauts (fragments of these texts were published in 'Niedziela'). The website of 'Niedziela' dedicated to the Holy Father was filled with information about people's reactions to his death, both in Poland and in the world. The Television Studio of 'Niedziela' prepared other films showing people's prayers for the Beloved Pope in Czestochowa and at Jasna Gora.

8 APRIL 2005 - funeral of the Holy Father John Paul II. Archbishop Stanislaw Nowak, Metropolitan of Czestochowa, and editor-in-chief of 'Niedziela' Msgr. Ireneusz Skubis participated in the Mass in St Peter's Square. Numerous workers of 'Niedziela' were among those 4 million pilgrims who arrived in Rome from all over the world to pray for the Beloved Pope. In the offices of 'Niedziela' the workers of the weekly participated in the funeral liturgy by watching the live broadcast from St Peter's in Rome. A special edition of 'Niedziela' dedicated to the Holy Father was published. The text of his spiritual Testament was added. Numerous photos presented the pontificate of the Beloved Holy Father. All copies of this issue were sold out in two days.

15 APRIL 2005 - in the aula of 'Niedziela' there was a meeting to promote Prof. Antoni Jackowski's book entitled Jasnogórskie pielgrzymowanie bez granic (Limitless Pilgrimages to Jasna Gora).

18 APRIL 2005 - the conclave began in Rome. The Cardinals were to elect the 265th pope.

19 APRIL 2005 - on the second day of the conclave the Cardinals elected Joseph Ratzinger from Germany. The new Pope took the name of Benedict XVI. A special issue of 'Niedziela' - Habemus Papam, dedicated to the new Pope Benedict XVI, was published.

MAY 2005 - the first part of the papal collection of 'Niedziela' appeared. Every month one issue of 'Niedziela' is dedicated to the person and pontificate of John Paul II.

20 MAY 2005 - in the aula of 'Niedziela' there was a meeting of Readers and Friends of our periodical with some representatives of the Papal Routes Foundation.

29 MAY 2005 - In Niepokalanow, stutuettes of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe, awards and prizes of the 20th International Catholic Films and Multimedia Festival 2005, were granted. Msgr Ireneusz Skubis, editor-in-chief of 'Niedziela', was given the Festival's statutory prize. He received the Special Prize of Julian Kulenty 'Multimedia in the service of evangelization' for his long-standing contribution in the work of evangelization through press, publications, the Internet and audiovisual media as well as for organisating conferences and seminars on the significance of modern means of social communication in the life of people and the Church. The jury also awarded the internet website of 'Niedziela'.

30 MAY 2005 - Editorial Board of the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela', in collaboration with the Minor Seminary in Czestochowa, organised a meeting with Prof. Jerzy Wojtczak-Szyszkowski, author of Latin poetry published in a collection of poems entitled 'Gloria, laus, honor'.

JUNE 2005 - the second issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'Polish Pope' appeared.

10 VI 2005 - an evening of religious poetry of Fr Marek Chrzanowski, FDP, was held in the aula. The poet recited his poems from two collections 'I swiatlem stanie sie mrok' [And the Darkness Becomes Light] and 'Krajobrazy milosci' [Landscapes of Love].

JULY 2005 - the third issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Polish Pope' appeared.

AUGUST 2005 - special web service about the 20th Youth Day in Cologne was initiated. - the fourth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope and the Youth' appeared.

15 AUGUST 2005 - 'Niedziela' prepared a calendar 2006 entitled 'Jan Pawel II. Portrety' [John Paul II. Portraits].

28 AUGUST 2005 - the last issue of 'Niedziela Warszawska' was published and the first issue of 'Niedziela w Warszawie' [Sunday in Warsaw] appeared.

SEPTEMBER 2005 - the fifth issue of the Papal Collection entitled '20th Youth Day Cologne' appeared.

9 SEPTEMBER 2005 - the new book of Msgr Ireneusz Skubis, editor-in-chief of 'Niedziela' entitled 'Z Kosciolem w codziennosc' [With the Church Into Daily Life] was presented in the aula, it was prepared by 'Biblioteka Niedzieli'.

17 SEPTEMBER 2005 - the 9th Pilgrimage of Friends and Readers of the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' to Jasna Gora had the motto: 'I have looked for you and you have come to me'. 'Niedziela' prepared a calendar 2006 entitled 'Niedziela with the Holy Father' for the pilgrims. There was a concert of the Folk Dance Ensemble 'Slask', entitled 'Everything what Poland is' (in collaboration with the Catholic Action of the Archdiocese of Czestochowa and the Philharmonic of Czestochowa).

18 SEPTEMBER 2005 - in the 38th issue of 'Niedziela' a new column appeared: 'Gadu-gadu z ksiedzem' [Chat with a priest] by Fr Andrzej Przybylski.

25 SEPTEMBER 2005 - in the 39th issue of 'Niedziela' the editor-in-chief interviewed President of Warsaw, Lech Kaczynski, candidate of 'Law and Justice' for Poland's President. The interview was entitled 'Concern for a strong and honest Poland'.

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2005 - workers of 'Niedziela' went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land (in two groups).

OCTOBER 2005 - the sixth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope and Prayer' appeared.

2 OCTOBER 2005 - the 40th issue of 'Niedziela' included 'Common Statement of the Polish Episcopate and the German Episcopate on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the exchange of letters between the Polish Episcopate and the German Episcopate in 1965'. -'Niedziela Czestochowska' began publishing commemorative texts about the 80th anniversary of the Diocese of Czestochowa.

3 OCTOBER 2005 - The editor-in-chief of 'Niedziela' received the statuette 'Summa Bonitas' [Highest Goodness] for special merits in implementing the programme of the Foundation for Children 'Help on Time', during a gala event in the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

7 OCTOBER 2005 - the editor-in-chief hosted Fr Claudio Rossini, General Director of Libreria Editrice Vaticana.

23 OCTOBER 2005 - 'Niedziela' published an interview with the Holy Father Benedict XVI
- and an interview with Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz, Metropolitan of Krakow, secretary of John Paul II.

OCTOBER 2005 - on the occasion of the 26th World Tourism Day, President of Czestochowa Tadeusz Wrona awarded honourable mention to the editor-in-chief of 'Niedziela' for his promotion of tourism and sightseeing, including his articles entitled 'Following the Papal Route'.

OCTOBER 2005 - 'Niedziela' dedicated several articles to the 80th anniversary of the Diocese of Czestochowa.

27-30 OCTOBER 2005 - 'Niedziela' participated in the 9th Book Fair in Krakow.

NOVEMBER 2005 - the seventh issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope and the Saints' was published.

8 NOVEMBER 2005 - Cardinal Jozef Glemp, the Primate of Poland, dedicated the headquarters of the editorial board of 'Niedziela w Warszawie'.

20 NOVEMBER 2005 - 'Niedziela' published the expose of Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, delivered in the Sejm on 10 November 2005.

27 NOVEMBER 2005 - 'Niedziela' published an interview with Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, made by the editor-in-chief Msgr Ireneusz Skubis.

21 DECEMBER 2005 - the vortal of 'Niedziela', web resource, was presented.

NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2005 - 'Niedziela' wrote about the visit ad limina Apostolorum of Polish bishops. It also published the message of the Holy Father Benedict XVI to the particular groups of Polish bishops.

DECEMBER 2005 - the eighth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope and Family' was published.
- 'Niedziela' prepared a calendar 2006 with photos of the Holy Land entitled 'The Whole Earth Comes to the Only Earth'.
- vortal of 'Niedziela' edited a film about the pilgrimage of 'Niedziela' to the Holy Land, prepared by the television studio of 'Niedziela'.

2 DECEMBER 2005 - in the aula Fr Andrzej Glasek, who guides pilgrims in the Holy Land, gave a talk entitled 'In the Homeland of Jesus - to discover the fifth gospel'.

JANUARY 2006 - the ninth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope and Ecumenism' was published.
- on the occasion of the journalists' day (the feast day of St Francis de Sales) the web editorial board prepared a special service on social means of communication.

1 JANUARY 2006 - 'Niedziela' published an interview with the Speaker of the Polish Parliament Marek Jurek, made by the editor-in-chief Msgr Ireneusz Skubis.

8 JANUARY 2006 - 'Niedziela' published the message of President Lech Kaczynski, delivered in the Parliament on 23 December 2005.
- web editorial board prepared a special service about ecumenism and dialogue with other religions.

11 JANUARY 2006 - solemn opening of the new headquarters of 'Niedziela na Dolnym Slasku' in Wroclaw. The opening and dedicated was made by Archbishop Marian Golebiewski, Metropolitan of Wroclaw.

14 JANUARY 2006 - in the aula the 3rd musical workshop entitled 'Mediaeval monody in choir. Pedagogical aspects' was held.

15 JANUARY 2006 - 'Niedziela' publish a polemic with 'Gazeta Wyborcza'; it concerned the defence of Jasna Gora and was entitled 'Jasna Gora Miracle' as interpreted by 'Gazeta Wyborcza'.

FEBRUARY 2006 - the tenth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope and Suffering' was published. The first issue of 'Niedziela w Ameryce' [Sunday in America] was published.

12 FEBRUARY 2006 - 'Niedziela' wrote about the tragedy in Silesia.

26 FEBRUARY 2006 - since the ninth issue 'Niedziela' has dedicated many articled on the anniversary of the Vows of Jan Kazimierz and the anniversary of the Jasna Gora Vows. An academic edition was inserted. It published an article by Bishop Stanislaw Wielgus entitled 'Militant secularism as a sign of the times and a special contemporary challenge towards Christianism.

MARCH 2006 - the eleventh issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope - Anniversary of his Death' was published.

5 MARCH 2006 - the message of Benedict XVI for Lent was published in issue 10 of 'Niedziela'.

12 MARCH 2006 - 'Niedziela' wrote about the first show of the film 'John Paul II' with John Voight.

26 MARCH 2006 - since the 13th issue 'Niedziela' has published reflections by Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, Metropolitan of Krakow, concerning Benedict XVI's encyclical 'Deus Caritas est'.

2 APRIL 2006 - a special edition of 'Niedziela', with a poster, on the first anniversary of John Paul II's death.
- web editorial board prepared a special service about the first anniversary of John Paul II's death. The Book of Gratitude will be published by 'Biblioteka Niedzieli'.

APRIL 2006 - the twelfth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Pope and the Eucharist' was published.

16 APRIL 2006 - another special edition of 'Niedziela' on the first anniversary of John Paul II's death.
- Commencing with issue 16. 'Niedziela' began articles about its 80th anniversary
- web editorial board prepared a special service www. niedziela.pl '80 lat "Niedzieli" [80 Years of 'Niedziela'], which includes: materials concerning the jubilee of the weekly and the 25th anniversary of its editor-in-chief, prepared by Msgr Ireneusz Skubis as well as messages of the authorities of the Church, known personalities from the world of politics, culture and science; these articles concern the significance of 'Niedziela' in social life. The radio and television studio of 'Niedziela' prepared suitable materials.

30 APRIL 2006 - TV Polonia broadcast Mass celebrated in the church of St Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Chruszczobrod, during the Mass 'Niedziela' offered the Diocese of Sosnowiec a copy of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

MAY 2006 - the thirteenth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Marian Pope' was published.
'Pilgrims' Prayer book', for the meeting with Benedict XVI in Czestochowa, was published in the series of 'Zeszyty Niedzieli'.

7 MAY 2006 - issue 19 of 'Niedziela' was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the assassination attempt on John Paul II. 'Niedziela' began publishing articles before the visit of Benedict XVI to Poland.

8 MAY 2006 - 'Papal Oak' was planted and dedicated at the editorial square.

21 MAY 2006 - issue 21 of 'Niedziela' had a picture of Benedict XVI, prepared for the Holy Father's pilgrimage to Poland.

25-28 MAY 2006 - 'Niedziela' accompanied the Holy Father during his pilgrimage in Poland.
- web editorial board prepared a special service about the pilgrimage of Benedict XVI entitled 'Stand Firm in faith'.

28 MAY 2006 - 'Niedziela' added a book by Josh McDowell, American writer, entitled 'Looking for the Answer 'The Da Vinci Code'

JUNE 2006 - the fourteenth double issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'Following the Footsteps of John Paul II ' was published. 'Dodatek Akademicki' with a text by Bishop Stanislaw Wielgus was published, the title being 'Reflection on the 'new ideology of evil' on the basis of John Paul II's 'Memory and Identity'.

4 JUNE 2006 - issue 23 had 'Dodatek Akademicki' with homilies and speeches by the Holy Father Benedict XVI from his visit to Poland.

AUGUST 2006 - the fifteenth issue of the Papal Collection entitled 'The Miracles of John Paul II' was published.

16 JULY 2006 -issue 29 of 'Niedziela' included many articles about the Family Day in Valencia, presided by Benedict XVI.
- special web service on the papal visit to Spain.

30 JULY 2006 - 'Niedziela' wrote about the war in Lebanon and the Holy Land.

AUGUST 2006 - Calendar 2007 dedicated to Benedict XVI, prepared by the graphic studio of 'Niedziela'.

6 AUGUST 2006 - 'Niedziela' published an interview with the new Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, made by the editor-in-chief Msgr Ireneusz Skubis.

13 AUGUST 2006 - 'Niedziela' wrote about the 15th anniversary of the 6th World Youth Day.
- editorial board of 'Niedziela' announced a prize photo competition entitled 'Direction - Jasna Gora!', on the subject of the phenomenon of Polish pilgrimages.
- special web service about pilgrimages to Jasna Gora was prepared.

20 AUGUST 2006 - 'Niedziela' wrote about the feast of the Assumption at Jasna Gora, Polish pilgrimages (reports) and the 50th jubilee of the National Vows of Jasna Gora

16 SEPTEMBER 2006 - the 10th Pilgrimage of Readers of Friends of the Catholic Weekly to Jasna Gora. Solemn celebration of the 80 years of 'Niedziela' and the 25th anniversary of its editor-in-chief Msgr Ireneusz Skubis.
