THE CHURCH ALSO ON PERIPHERIES

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The first pilgrimage of the Holy Father Francis to Brazil had many segments. First of all, it was a meeting with the youth of the world. It was a reference to what was started by our compatriot John Paul II, also a reference to the VI World Youth Days in Częstochowa in 1991. Therefore, Poland is looking at the World Youth Days in a friendly and tender way. »

A SIGN FROM CORCOVADO

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Rio together with Christ the Redeemer from the summit of Corcovado has become a city symbol of the youth and universality of the Church in the recent days. Preparations for the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro had been lasting long. As the Holy Father Francis said after his election for pope – indeed it is the end of the world. »

A SOCIAL CRY FOR NORMALITY

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

In the recent months, crowds of a few thousand people have walked along the streets of many Polish cities, which wanted to shout about a very important thing to the world: that life is a valuable , the most wonderful gift, which we could ever receive, and that we must appreciate it. How beautifully it composes with what happens on St. Peter’s Square, when the Holy Father Francis leans out of his car and takes little children into his hands, blesses them and gives them a kiss in the eyes of crowds of a few thousand people from the whole world. »

THIS IS A GREAT PRIEST –THE LATE CARDINAL STANISŁAW NAGY

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

We hear or say the words: ‘I was lucky’ when something good happened to us, thanks to which we are internally rich and happy. There are many such events in our life. Referring to the Gospel, we can say that young men were lucky who met an excellent Interlocutor on their way one day, who was Jesus Christ. Being impressed by his person, they followed him, often shedding their blood. »

A GREAT FRIEND OF ‘SUNDAY’ PASSED AWAY

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

When I received a message about the death of cardinal Stanisław Nagy, I thought about the talk with him two days earlier, that is, on 3 June, which was very friendly, conducted by Priest Cardinal with a full awareness. We were talking about his speech, planned on 16 June this year at Jasna Góra, during the Nationwide Congress of the Catholics – ‘Stop Atheism’. He was wondering what he should say. »

A MYSTERY OF ONE HEART

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The heart is a symbol of love, something which the most beautiful, the best, and also which characterizes a man the most. ‘Have heart and look into the heart’ – these are the words of a poet and a drama writer of Romanticism – Adam Mickiewicz. If we say about somebody that he has a good heart, it means he is good and will not hurt anybody – in contrary, that he will be helpful and support for somebody. »

PHILOSOPHY OF A CHILD

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The Child’s Day, being just celebrated, brings to mind the most beautiful Child’s Day, which is Christmas. The child who was born in Bethlehem, is called Jesus Christ. The crib in Bethlehem is a place of an unusual happiness, because it is a place of God’s Son, Incarnated God. »

A NEW FEAST IN THE POLISH CHURCH

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

According to the decision of our Episcopate on 23 May 2013, it will be the first time we will have been celebrating the feast of Jesus Christ the Supreme and Eternal Priest in Poland. From now on, it is going to be always celebrated on Thursday, after the Pentecost. It is a feast which is important in regard to the fact that the function of a priest belongs to the basic functions in the Church and each of practically meets with it. »

‘THE BLESSED OF PURE HEART, FOR THEY WILL SEE GOD’ (MT 5.8)

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

It is one of an unusual blessing of Jesus from a Sermon on a Hill, who teaches us to look at the reality with beautiful, pure eyes. Such eyes come from the pure heart. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a book of love. On the one hand, it shows God’s love to the man, and on the other hand, the man’s love to God. We are learning from Jesus to look at God Father and at another man. In Jesus everything is beautiful, rich, full of developing life. »

IT IS POSSIBLE TO DESTROY EVERYBODY

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Everybody who watched a Polish film by Ryszard Bugajski ‘A closed system’, experienced a real shock; especially that in the end of the film there is information that three perpetrators of a tragedy of other people do not bear any consequence for their diabolical actions, but got promoted and are doing quite well. »

JOHN PAUL II - A MYSTERY OF GREATNESS

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

It has already been 8 years since the moment when the unforgettable pope John Paul II passed away to Lord. On 2 April 2005 at 9.37 pm the whole world fell into deep sadness, silence and prayer. It is proved here by the films presenting St. Peter’s Square on that memorable evening, with vast groups of pilgrims on whose faces very deep grief and tears were visible. »

GOD-HONOUR-HOMELAND

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

God – Honour – Homeland – the motto of the Polish Army, written on the flags of Polish military forces, is a very important call, to which every Pole Catholic should be faithful. Certainly, in the first place there is always God, our Creator and Lord, who is Love, in which ‘we move and we are’(see the Acts 17.28)and to whom we are aiming with our whole life. »

‘HABEMUS PAPAM!’

We have a pope! From 13 March 2013 the 76-year-old cardinal Jorge Mario Borgoglio, archbishop of Buenos Aires, the primate of Argentina is the pope. The new pope took a name: Francis. This joyful statement of the cardinal Proto-deacon Jean-Louis Tauran has reached the whole world. We were witnesses of a kind of consternation which appeared among gathered believers on the St. Peter Square. »

AGAINST THE TREND OF THE CREEPING ATHEISM

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

I would like to thank You, Dear Readers of the ‘Sunday’ again, for reading our weekly. First I say ‘thank you’ to those who are engaged in distributing it. Distribution is a very important task today. Certainly, comparing various press articles, we should note that every newspaper has its profile and emphasis arranged differently on issues which are important for us. For, every editorial office has its own assumptions and preferences. »

WE CAN DO A LOT TOGETHER

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

We let you know about our editorial situation in many ways. We all know, that for a long time the costs of our life – also the costs of editing the magazine – have been higher. In spite of what we hear in the enunciations of those in authority, Poles find it worse and worse to live. High unemployment makes life difficult for many families, while they should create a friendly community, developing physically, intellectually and strengthening the spirituality of their members. »
