The Primate of Poland cardinal Stefan Wyszyński (1901 – 81) has been nine times to the Western Pomerania, including seven times in Szczecin. It was just during his first visit in the city of Gryf, when he got a message about raising him to the honour of cardinal by pope Pius XII, hence, ‘Cardinal of Szczecin’, which name was willingly used by the Primate of Millennium. Being an archbishop of Gniezno and Warsaw, he was also a bishop of administrative district of Gorzów (1948 – 72) and a metropolitan of the diocese of Szczecin. (1972 – 81). »
