Catholic journalist AD 2007

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The last events connected with Archbishop Wielgus's resignation as Metropolitan of Warsaw significantly proved that 'words spoken by 'authorities' in the media + picture = great power of suggestion'. And from there it is one step to an attempt on the freedom and dignity of man. This fact makes you reflect on the ethics of the professional group: journalists working in the press, television and the Internet. The feast of St Francis de Sales, patron saint of journalists, falls on 24 January. »

Your Eminence, we thank you

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Cardinal Jozef Glemp, Primate of Poland, has ministered to the Polish Church for 25 years. He has been a sign of love for God and man in those difficult times in the history of our homeland. He earned our highest respect and gratitude for his attitude towards the turbulent Polish history. »

Manger calls for love

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

In the festive atmosphere of Christmas one must reflect on the place of child and family in the contemporary world. The despair of an abused child is pricks of conscience to all those who did not notice the family tragedy in time. »

O Christ, exercise all thy rights over us!

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The Feast of Christ the King ends the liturgical year. In the light of the approaching local elections it is worth remembering that the most important moral law is the law of love and the biggest royalty is service. »

I have today set before you life and death...

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The Polish Parliament is discussing a revision of the constitutional regulation concerning the defence of life by adding the phrase 'form conception to natural death'. The words are important in the homeland of the Pope who appealed for culture of life, the Pope who said, 'Stop barbarism!' »

Patriotism, family, immigration

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The idea of homeland will survive even it is not on any map of a real country. Family and culture will transmit it from generation to generation. That happened to Poland, which was restored after 123 years of slavery. Today more than ever one should preserve the value of patriotism. The structures of the European Union and a big wave of immigration of young Poles have special grounds for that. »

'Niedziela' - modern magazine, in a week

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

On the Papal Day the Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' will be published in a new smaller format. The editorial board is meeting the expectations of numerous readers and presents a modern paper with an interesting graphic layout as well as analytical texts. »

'Niedziela' - Deo et Patriae

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Our aim has always been to present the message of the Church, to be faithful to our Homeland, Polish culture and history as well as to be people's friends in their daily joys and sorrows', says Msgr Ireneusz Skubis, editor-in-chief of 'Niedziela'. »

We are at the foot of Jasna Gora

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Polish pastoral ministry is focused on the pastoral ministry at Jasna Gora. That's why 'Niedziela' writes about this place. Jasna Gora is Poland, is Polonia [Polish immigrants all over the world], and many events that have gone down in the history of our nation. »

What is in the man of the 21st century?

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Some Polish workers who made the choice of bitter bread of immigration in the richer EU countries did not find their 'promised land'. The pictures of the Italian labour camps, where Polish people are sent, shock us by their cruelty. »

About God in family

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Family is the most important community for man. It is in family that man grows and family is the aim of his life. It is in family that faith is passed on from generation to generation. »

Jubilee among friends

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

This year 'Niedziela' celebrates its 80th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of its reactivation during the times of the Solidarnosc movement in 1981, and I, its editor-in-chief, celebrate the 25th anniversary of holding this position. »

To experience Lwow

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

In many Poles' lives the most important events happened in Lwow [Ukrainian Lviv]]. We feel regret over this wonderful land and its wonderful people who experienced their Polish national identity in the times that required heroic attitudes. »

Hot Polish May

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

This year Polish May, always saturated with Marian prayer, is filled with international events. Benedict XVI, Successor of St Peter, makes his first visit to the country of his predecessor, John Paul II. The appalling film 'The Da Vinci Code' is on in Polish cinemas. The Catholic Weekly 'Niedziela' tries to introduce and explain the meaning of these events. »

Breaking 'The Code...'

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

We are shocked by the book and film 'The Da Vinci Code', which Archbishop Angelo Amato, secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, described as 'full of slander, offences and historical and theological errors about Jesus, the Gospels and the Church.' »
