In the mood of the Bethlehem night

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Christmas – the feast of the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ – is approaching. The promised Messiah is coming to save the world. »

Who is disturbed to see a crucifix?

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The problem of the presence of the crucifix in public places has been raised in the Catholic television programme ‘Between heaven and earth’ recently. And on 25 November 2007, the Sunday that ends the liturgical year, we celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King, which suits the theme very well. »

The Good News and the needs of the time

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

When I visited Sweden I had the opportunity to see a very modern paper mill. It was a huge factory that produced tons of paper. When you visit such a mill you realise how many things have been changed in the world recently. »

May we have better lives – all of us!

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

We were all waiting for the first results of the parliamentary election. At last, after almost three-hour delay, we saw the tables showing how many per cent each party gained. »

The pilgrimage of the Employees, Readers and Friends of ‘Niedziela’ to the Shrine of Jasna Gora fell on 15 September 2007, the day before the World Communications Day, which was celebrated in Poland on the third Sunday of September (that was the 11th pilgrimage). »

On 16 September 2007 we celebrate the Forty-first World Communications Day in Poland. That day was celebrated on 20 May in the world. Pope Benedict XVI entitled his message for that occasion ‘Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education’ (we print it on page 16). »

The sign of the priestly stole

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Reflection concerning pilgriming

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

I am impressed by the meeting with pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Lublin in Czarnca near Wloszczowa. Many priests joined that group. I could also take part in solemn Mass celebrated in the fields. The Mass was presided by Bishop Ryszard Karpinski. »

They dedicated their lives to Mary

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

There is a Latin saying 'De Maria numquam satis' - Concerning Mary, never enough!' This saying is still valid today and one of the proofs of its validity is wonderful pilgriming to Marian places, including Jasna Gora. »

What kind of European culture?

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Europe did not include the idea of God in its constitution. This is some kind of paradox that Christian Europe does not want to place the name of God and reference to Christian values in the preamble to its fundamental bill. »

A blow to the biggest family of the world

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The 15th Pilgrimage of the Radio Maryja Family to Jasna Gora, which was held at the beginning of July 2006, got a lot of publicity. This big religious event deserves special attention since impressive crowds of pilgrims from various parts of Poland and abroad gathered there. »

Visiting Poles in Naples

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Although Polish economic immigrants have gone to England and Ireland the number of Poles in Italy is growing. They need spiritual support and contact with community. These needs are met by pastoral centres run by Polish priests. »

Against heresies, including the contemporary heresies

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

On 28 June we celebrate the feat of Saint Irenaeus, Bishop and Martyr. This saint helps us understand theology, Christ and man better just as he helped his contemporaries. Saint Irenaeus is the patron saint of the only student center parish and the patron of the church that is being built there. »

Being a shepherd of the Church

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul is one of the most important celebrations in the Eternal City where both Apostles founded the first Christian community and gave their lives for faith. »

Doctors have gone on strike and what about patients?

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Doctors decisively demanded considerable pay rises. We all know that wages in Poland are poor. When we compare our wages with the wages of those who have gone to work, for example in Great Britain we must admit that their pay is much higher and people are immediately better off there. »
