Passing judgement on the Church?

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

In some interview I made with one of the bishops many years ago my interlocutor spoke about the Polish piety that had the character of the Lord’s Passion. Poles love crosses, Calvary routes, places resembling Jerusalem and the Passion of Lord Jesus. »

God is

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

There were very shocking words: ‘There is no God’ on the cover of some weekly. There was also an article of some physicist who wrote it as a great authority, naturally a non-believer, claiming in the name of science that the world and life were created self-righting, taking into account the laws of physics, e.g. gravity. »

Remembrance

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

We are shocked. Suddenly, some guards appeared outside the Presidential Palace and carried the cross to the chapel in the Palace. Apparently nothing wrong happened because the cross was not desecrated. »

Monument to President Kaczynski

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

‘No poetry will be written about such presidents as Walesa, Kwasniewski or Komorowski but we are witnessing poetry and community songs about Lech Kaczynski’, Archbishop Slawoj Leszek Glodz said at Jasna Gora on 26 August 2010. »

At the threshold of the new school year 2010/11

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Another school year has begun. It brings extremely many old problems, which almost every Polish family struggles with. These include buying school textbooks and accessories as well as clothes. »

An Incident or a struggle for fundamental matters?

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

I want to refer to the events that took place in front of the Presidential Palace on 3 August 2010, events described as an incident when crowds were convinced that the cross should not be removed from that place. »

The banished cross

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Throughout their difficult history Poles have understood well what the sign of the cross is. The cross has been appreciated, loved and worshipped so much. By nature we are sincere and open and that’s why in our Homeland the cross is in all honourable places. »

Could the Gospel be split?

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Sometimes people ask me what my favourite time for work is. I answer that the best time for me is ca. 3.30 a.m. because then you can order your thoughts and without any disturbing phone calls you can record them. »

Polonia vs. Homeland’s matters

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Polonia should be cared for. The example of that is the American Polonia, especially the Polish immigrants in Chicago, practically from the beginning being under the care of the Polish Church, which has maintained faith, culture and Polish traditions. »

The Church and elections

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The presidential election is over and now we have many reflections and questions concerning it. We also look closer at some groups of the Polish society. We can see some Poles who did not vote and who as if did not care about it. »

Let us choose the truth

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

When I read the speeches of John Paul II from his pilgrimages to his Homeland I reflect on some phrases, including the ones that have been quoted in this issue of ‘Niedziela’, ‘O Polish land! »

From religious instruction to Europe’s culture

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Today I want to reflect on the theme that is especially important to pupils of elementary and secondary schools as well as to their parents – the problem of religious instruction in schools. »

Saints Peter and Paul – the rock of the faith and the glory of the Church, pray for us

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

The solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul is a feast important to the whole Church. I was lucky to participate in the solemn liturgy in honour of the Saint Apostles in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome several times. »

Test of Polish conscience

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

Today let us focus on conscience. It can be defined as the ability to evaluate one’s behaviour as consistent or not consistent with the accepted ethical norms, the awareness of moral responsibility for one’s deeds. »

Recollecting Fr Jerzy Popieluszko

Fr. IRENEUSZ SKUBIŚ

As I have recollected many times when I was a chaplain of students I asked Fr Jerzy Popieluszko to give retreats in our students’ church in Czestochowa. Then we used to invite many priests who could give valuable contributions. »
